Eligibility: Must be a member in good standing of Lincolnshire Fields Country Club with full golfing privileges. All league regulars as well as weekly substitutes must maintain a handicap at LFCC with a minimum of ten (10) scores posted prior to participation.
Field of Players: The League will be comprised of 4 divisions: Two divisions will contain 18 two-man teams, and two divisions will contain 16 two-man teams. Teams are scheduled to play (15) matches within their division. Teams will play matches against the majority of the teams within their own division. Teams accumulate points via the format explanation below. Each team is scheduled to play (15) 9-hole matches during the 20-week regular season.
Format for Play: Teams will be playing 9-hole matches using a high low scoring system (outlined in scoring format). All play will be in accordance with the USGA Rules of Golf Stroke Play format (except where noted in these policies) Play will be from the Blue tee markers. Team will be competing for 18 high-low points, plus 2 points will be awarded to the team with the most holes won. The points your team accumulates will determine your position amongst the other teams in your division. Team position is important because the (4) teams in each bracket with the highest point totals will receive additional payouts for their position in the overall standings.
Scoring of Points: Each hole will have a point value of 2 (1 point for the team with the low net best ball, and 1 point for the team not having the high net ball). If low ball and/or high-ball are tied the points are split using half points. Also, 2 points will be awarded to the team winning the most holes (based on match play). All matches will have a total of 20 possible points.
It is permissible to have a single player represent a team, however, one point will be deducted from that teams total score for each hole represented by only one player (maximum of 3 points). The single player’s score counts for high-ball and low ball. If a player joins the group during the course of the match, one point is deducted from the total points for each of the holes that player missed (maximum of 3 points). Men’s League is an organized social event, as such, it is strongly encouraged that teams are represented by two players weekly.
We will again be giving each foursome two scorecards (1 to each team) to assist you in the accuracy of scoring your match and to help you know where your handicap strokes fall. Once both teams agree on the match scoring, please turn both cards in together to assist us with preparing the results.
Forfeits: If a forfeit occurs, the team winning by forfeit will receive 18 points towards the standings, however, they are not eligible to win in the nightly payouts (and do not receive the 2 points for most holes won).
Nightly Payouts: The nightly payouts will consist of the top (3) teams, plus (3) low net players and (2) low gross players in each division scheduled. All payouts are in Golf Shop credit.
Handicap Allocation: The player(s) with the lowest handicap in each foursome will play at scratch. Remaining players will receive the difference between their handicap and the handicap of the lowest player(s) in the group. Your handicap strokes are to be allocated as they fall according to the handicap holes listed on the scorecard, (i.e. if the difference between handicaps is 11, you would receive 6 strokes if you are playing the front 9, and only 5 strokes if you are playing the back 9).
Inclement Weather Contingency: Each team scheduled but not finishing at least 6 holes will receive 10 points towards the standings, however, matches completing at least six holes will be considered an official match and scored accordingly. Teams completing at least six holes but less than 9 holes will split the points on all unfinished holes. In the case of a weather-out (any situation in which scheduled teams do not finish at least 6 holes due to inclement weather) those scheduled players will receive a $4 payout in Golf Shop credit. Substitutes procured for the evening (notification of the Golf Shop) will also receive $4 in Golf Shop credit.
Substitutions: If you are scheduled for play but are unable to make it (for whatever reason) you may procure a substitute to replace you. Substitutions are the responsibility of the individual team members. The Golf Shop may be of some assistance in procuring a substitute for you with advanced notification. Please notify the Golf Shop as soon as a substitute has been confirmed so we can produce accurate scorecards for your matches.
Furthermore, please keep in mind that all “league regular players’ not scheduled (one division each week) are potential substitutes. On evenings that your team is not scheduled you are eligible to play as a substitute in one of the other divisions.
Pace of Play: It is the majority opinion of “league regulars” that we have a slow play problem. In an effort to expedite play we have adopted the following policy regarding putts “inside the leather”. The policy states that any player with a putt within the leather (the area between the putter head and the bottom of the grip) of the shortest putter in the foursome, that putt is considered good. Please note that this is not optional, but rather a “league rule”. Please remove all such putts allowing the play of others to proceed.
Please make every effort to be ready to start at the sounding of the horns and also play ready golf during the evening. Improving the pace of play is a high priority for league play.
Commencement of Play: Play will start each evening with the sounding of air horns. At such time players must be ready for play. Any player not ready for play at the sounding of the air horns must commence play prior to any player in the scheduled group hitting his second shot. If such player(s) do not arrive at their designated starting hole prior to the second shots being played they will forfeit the high-ball for that hole. Additionally, if a player joins the group during the course of the round that team will lose the high-ball point for each of the holes already played.
The nightly announcement of rules of play will begin 15 minutes before the scheduled tee off. I highly recommend that at least one player (if not both players) on each team be present at the time of this announcement. Additionally, a last call at the 19th Hole will be given 10 minutes prior to the start of play each evening.
Playoffs: The playoffs have been eliminated.
Nightly Payouts: In order that the nightly results are completed in an expeditious manner, we ask that you please be accurate and timely with all scorecards. We will need both scorecards from each match, please check to see that they match and that you agree before turning them in.
League Attendance: We will be monitoring the weekly attendance of team members. “League” policy requires each team to play in a combination of at least 22 of the 30 possible scheduled matches (15 per team member). An example would be player A is present for all 15 scheduled matches and player B is present for 8 matches. This would give the team an attendance mark of 23 out of a possible 36 (over the minimum of 22). Attendance is based upon only the matches each team is scheduled to play, not matches in which team members substitute. Teams not meeting this attendance requirement are subject to possible replacement for the 2010 season.
Final Standings: The top four teams in each division will receive place monies for their position at the conclusion of the 20-week regular season.
League Charges: Each “league regular” (part of a two-man team) will be billed $106 for the 20 week season, with non-”league regulars” (substitutes) being charged $10 per night of play.
Team Policy: a) If your partner quits the league you are entitled to find a new partner of your choice. b) If your partner leaves you to play with someone else in league that lost his partner you are entitled to find a new partner of your choice. c) If a full team drops out of league then the next team on the waiting list will get that spot. d) Teams may switch partners as long as the number of teams does not increase. e) Teams splitting up and creating two new teams are subject to waiting list rules.
Committee Policy: The Men’s Wednesday Night League Committee will have the final say on all “league” rules and policy matters.
I hope you are ready for an enjoyable experience and a season of FUN and excitement. If the Golf Shop staff can do anything (other than play for you) to make this season a more enjoyable one for you, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Good luck and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow members.
