Well it’s hard to believe, the flooding we had been experiencing has turned 180 degrees and now the course is firm and fast. The last two weeks we have been bombarded with extreme heat.

Congratulations: Kurt Lenschow leads the list of heroics this month, with a Hole-In-One on #4. Kurt hit a 9 iron from about 135 yards to a front left pin position. Lifetime lows were recorded by: Jo Anderson (40 on the front 9), Judy Griffith (98) had here first sub 100 score. Other accomplishments include: Dave Ruedi holing out from 135 yards out on #18. Making this even more remarkable, Dave used his putter. That is certainly the longest putt made I have heard of. Also holing out (from 70 yds.) for a birdie 3 on #18 was Rick Baughman, sealing a one up victory for his team in a Fields Match Play match. On the subject of holing out, Becky Beach holed a 115 yard approach shot while hitting shots on #13 during the recent 9-Holers Rally for a Cure / Guest Day. It was quite a thrill for the group she was assisting.

Kudos are also appropriate for Leon Hinton & Stu Broeren, our Member-Guest grand champions. Tom Bieling, Craig Gharst and Roger Peterson headed the field in the McGladrey Team Championship carding a 9 under par 63. The trio will be representing LFCC at the Sectional qualifying at Cress Creek CC in mid-August. Good luck gentlemen! Clayton Parkhill recently carded six consecutive birdies in route to a front 9 score of 30. Claire Dabrowski was medallist in the Girls 14-17 age group at the recent U of I Open. Claire followed that up with her LFCC low of 88.

If you would like to share a golfing accomplishment with your fellow members, just let us know. Until then, take dead aim, have faith and most importantly, have FUN.

Thank you: To those of you that have participated in our golf events, we appreciate you sharing your time with us. If you have not yet been able to join in on any of the various events, hopefully, you will be able to in the near future. Regardless, be sure to make time to enjoy one of central Illinois’ finest courses.

Tee Times – 4th of July: Tee times for Saturday July 4th will be available beginning Thursday July 2nd at 9am. Our holiday tee time policy will be in effect on both Saturday July 4th and Friday July 3rd, resulting in all tee times between 7am and Noon available for reservation. At Noon, we will return to alternating between reservable and walk-up tee times through 3pm. After 3pm all times are on a walk-up basis. Please be aware that tee times for July 3rd & July 5th become available on Thursday July 2nd at 10:00a.

This will be a very busy day and a reservable tee time is recommended.

Firecracker Open: This annual summer favorite will again be played on July 4th. This unique event combines play from all three sets of tee markers during the round (Blue, White & Black). The men will tour the course playing six holes from the White Tees, six holes from the Blue Tees and six holes from the Black tees. Women’s groups will play nine holes from the Red Tees, while the other nine holes will be played from the White Tees. Mixed foursomes will combine both of the previously mentioned combinations.

Put together your favorite foursome and sign-up before teeing off on Saturday. The format will be the two best balls of the foursome using net scores. Entry fee will be $15 per player.

Club Championships: Hard to believe, but the Club Championships are rapidly approaching. Scheduled for August 15th and 16th. This year’s event will consist of 36 holes of play (18 holes each day) using a stroke play format. Players will be flighted based upon current handicaps. Men’s flights as follows:

Championship 0-7 handicaps (lowest 16 handicap indexes signed up)

First Flight 8-12

Second Flight 13-17

Third Flight 18-22

Fourth Flight 23 & over

The Women’s Flights will be determined once the sign-ups have been completed. We truly hope that each flight will contain at least eight players.

Sign-up deadline for both men and women is Wednesday August 12th. All sign-ups thereafter will be alternates. Give us a call and sign-up early to reserve your spot, or pencil your name on the sign-up sheet on the events/activities board!

Nine & Dine: In the month of July, there will be three opportunities to enjoy Nine & Dine, Fridays July 10th, 17th and 24th. Play will consist of three 3-hole formats (scramble, two best balls and alternate shot) Sign-ups are limited to the first 44 players each evening. Sign-ups can be made as couples or singles with pairings made before play. Non-golfing spouses (designated others) are encouraged you join in afterwards for dinner.

Men’s League: With 10 weeks in the books, it appears that each division promises to go right down to the wire to determine the champions. It appears that the only thing not going well with this year’s league is the pace of play. Players are encouraged to play ready golf until reaching the putting surface. Please do whatever you can to improve the pace of play and the overall enjoyment of the league for all.

Additionally, please remember that when securing subs, it is important to notify the Golf Shop so that we can produce accurate scorecards in advance. The entire staff thanks you for your assistance with this matter.

Twin City Tournaments: The Men’s Twin City will be played on Saturday July 25th at CCC, Saturday August 1st at LFCC and Sunday August 2nd at UCC. On Saturday August 1st when LFCC hosts the second round of the Men’s Twin City, the course will be closed until approximately 4pm. On Saturday July 25th and Sunday August 2nd when the tournament is being played at Champaign CC and Urbana CC respectively, LFCC will be hosting players from the other clubs using our Holiday Tee Time policy. This means that on both of these days all tee times between 7am-Noon are reservable and walk-ups will begin at 12:10p. It is strongly encouraged that if you are planning to play on either of these days, a tee time is a must!

This year’s Women’s Twin City will be played at UCC on Tuesday July 21st, and at CCC on Wednesday July 22nd.

Course Closures: The course will be closed on the following days and times:

Sunday July 12th – 2pm shotgun (Mixed Event)

Tuesday July 26th – Front 9 3:30p to 6:00p (Parent-Child Event)

Range Closures: The range will be closed on the following days and times:

Saturday July 4th – closing at 6pm

Tuesday July 21st - 5:30-6:45p

Parent-Child Event: This annual favorite is scheduled for Sunday July 26th. Play will begin at 3:30p with a shotgun start on the Front 9. The Back 9 will be available for general play, however, please anticipate that it will be fairly busy. The event will consist of an alternate shot format between the parent and child. Sign-ups are limited to the first 33 two-player teams. When necessary, a surrogate parent may be assigned to partner with a child in need. Dinner will follow play and non-playing family members are welcome to join the festivities.

Junior Golf Championship: Scheduled for Friday July 17th, kids are encouraged to arrive a little bit before their scheduled time giving them a chance to warm-up prior to the tournament. There will not be a lesson before play on this day. The kids will be playing the same hole(s) that they play weekly in the Friday morning program. We will also be in need of volunteer scorekeepers to supervise each group while on the course. Please let us know if you are available to assist with the kids.

Please mark your calendar for the Junior Sports Banquet scheduled for Tuesday August 23rd. Dinner starts at 5:30p with the awards and prizes to follow. This is always a fun evening as well as a good opportunity to support the kids for their accomplishments. Reservations should be made through the dining room.

Couples Event: Scheduled for Sunday, July 12th with a 12:30p buffet lunch, followed by a 2:00p shotgun start. The format will be Net Team Skins.  There will be plenty of excitement and laughs for all. Ladies are encouraged to invite a male partner to enjoy the round together. Teams are permitted to pair up with another twosome already signed up to play as a foursome. Chef Chris will have a wonderful buffet lunch ready prior to play. Entry fee is $50 per team including lunch.

Hullabaloo 2009 Edition: This year’s premiere member event is rapidly approaching. Scheduled for the weekend of August 29th & 30th, it all starts with the Team Drawing on Friday August 21st, followed by the Team Auction on Friday 28th. I’m confident that the move away from the Labor Day weekend will create opportunities for many more of you to play this year. Look for the formal mailing sometime in mid-July. Please be aware that the only way to sign-up for the Hullabaloo is to return the sign-up form via fax, mail, email or in person. Phone entries will not be accepted.

Please be aware that one of the eligibility requirements to participate in the Hullabaloo is to have 10 rounds be posted in 2009. Rounds listed as C (for combined) will not be accepted as part of the requirement of 10 scores.

Last year Jeff Hedge won a 2009 Mercedes Benz, this year it might be you!

If you are new to the Club, or just interested in additional exposure for your business, consider a Hole-Sponsorship in the Hullabaloo. For a $100 contribution, you will receive two days of exposure on the course, not to mention being listed as a Hole Sponsor at the awards ceremony. You will be receiving a separate letter explaining this excellent opportunity.

Course Etiquette & Cart Traffic: It has been brought to my attention that a few individuals may not be using acceptable golf etiquette while enjoying their golf at LFCC. I encourage you to extend the common courtesies customary to the game to your fellow members each and every visit. Please repair ball marker, sand fill divots and allow faster players to play through when there is room ahead.

During the summer heat, it is especially important to observe a few simple tips to help maintain the beauty of the course throughout the summer. Remember to use the paths whenever possible (i.e. during the long stretches from tee to landing areas), park with all four tires on the path (not two on two off) and avoid making sharp turns that put unnecessary stress on the turf.

Lastly, there have been numerous reports of children driving carts through the neighborhoods and having close encounters with automobiles. While this may seem innocent, electric carts are not licensed for travel on public roads. Additionally, most insurance policies do not cover this type of use. In the past, the Sheriff’s department has taken a relaxed approach to this type of cart activity, however, continued abuse will likely cause them to monitor it more closely. My concern is not only for the safety and well being of the members and their families, but also this wonderful privilege that makes belonging to LFCC so special. Please help us curb the unnecessary use of carts on our public roads, especially by children. Thank you in advance for your assistance regarding this very serious and dangerous matter.

Lincolnshire Fields is truly one of the best and most beautiful courses in central Illinois and I hope you will share my passion for keeping it that way.

Small Golf Groups: If you are looking to entertain a group of golfers during the week, we would like to take care of you. Please contact me with possible dates and times and I’ll see if we can make it work. I’m confident that you and your group will enjoy the day at LFCC and we look forward to hosting you. LFCC has a lot to offer and a staff that is dedicated to taking care of its members and their guests.

Safety First: As you enjoy your Club this summer, please remember to use caution when driving into and out of the Club parking lot. With pedestrian, children and golf cart traffic at an all time high, it is extremely important to watch your speed, keep focused and follow the directional arrows. Please do your part in making LFCC a safe place to enjoy.

Hole-In-One Club: As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the Hole-In-One Club is in full swing. To date we have approximately 110 members. See the sign-up board for complete details.

As a member of the Hole-In-One Club, you could be a recipient of $10 for each player signed up for the program. Any Hole-In-One Club member that records a Hole-In-One during an 18 hole round (or 9 hole “league” round) with another LFCC member present will receive $10 from each of the other Hole-In-One Club members. A Hole-In-One is always a exciting accomplishment, however, being part of the Hole-In-One Club can make it even sweeter. Take dead aim and fire at the flag.

Becky’s Mystery Bus Trip: Scheduled for Friday August 7th, this year’s women’s Mystery Bus Trip will be heading for %$!*#@/&?#@! golf course for another great day of fun and laughter. Sign-ups will be limited to the first 40 players. All interested players should contact Becky for further details. Make sure your passport is in order for this one.

Please be aware: We need your help in locating a large number of the white towels the Golf Shop distributes to golfers to assist in the enjoyment of their round. Please look through your private carts, laundry rooms and garages and return any you may come across. Unfortunately, the Club will take a pretty good hit with our linens provider on any missing towels. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

In an effort to allow our staff the opportunity to share the July 4th holiday with their families, the driving range will close at 6pm on Saturday July 4th and the Golf Shop will close at 7pm. Thank you for your understanding, and please plan accordingly.

Memorial Cup: Thanks to the generosity of our Memorial Cup sponsors, the list of players accumulating points in an effort to qualify for the end of season contest is ever growing. Our  sponsors:  Arby’s, Orange & Blue Distributors, Commerce Bank and Eagle Eye Surveillance have been generous enough to provide us with an $800 event purse. Hope you are one of the lucky qualifiers with a chance at a piece of the pie. A complete listing of the current points awarded can be found on the Events/Activities board adjacent to the locker rooms.

LFCCgolf.com: You can access all LFCC golf related news at: www.lfccgolf.com . We are again posting league results, special announcements, schedules, event results and the golf section of the newsletter on this website. All this information is just a few clicks away. You can also sign-up for timely course alerts via Twitter, see details on the website.

In closing, it is a pleasure serving you and thank you for taking such pride in your Club. Through your efforts, LFCC has become one of the finest facilities in central Illinois and beyond.

Happy golfing and hope to see you at your Club soon!
